New Features To Improve Communications During Emergencies

Communication is a crucial element of any emergency response procedure. When an incident or crisis occurs, it’s essential to notify relevant persons, and communicate key information to ensure that you are able to achieve the best possible outcome.

With our emergency rolls, schools of all kinds have been able to plan and prepare response procedures for many different situations - Stacey Gearhart, Assistant head for student life and dorm parent at St Anne’s Belfield School, recently spoke about her experience using emergency rolls in a real-life situation. Since Boardingware already keeps track of where your students are, more and more schools are beginning to rely on our system for campus safety, which is why I’m super excited to tell you about the new improvements we’ve made to deliver critical communications during an emergency.

Here’s what’s new...

Allow students to mark themselves as “Safe”

During an emergency roll, you can now give your students the ability to mark themselves as “Safe” or “In Danger” from their mobile phone. Once they’ve responded, their roll status will update in real-time so you can see exactly which students are safe and which are still yet to be accounted for.

Giving your students this ability, enables you to instantly view critical information about your students safety so you can quickly assess the situation and allocate resources to ensure the best possible outcome is achieved.

Send alert when emergency roll has been completed

In the heat of an emergency, it can be hard to know when it’s all over and safe to resume your day. This element of uncertainty can cause confusion and unnecessary anxiety for staff, students as well as parents.

To help with this, we’ve now made it possible for you to automatically notify people when an emergency roll has been completed. Communicating this critical information allows you to close the loop and provide staff, students and parents with a much needed sense of calmness.

Introducing Reasons-Based Attendance

Every school has dealt with this: you pull a report on student absences, and instead of clean data, you get "Sick", "Ill", "Unwell", "Home sick", "Flu", all describing the same thing. Good luck spotting patterns in that mess.
